Granite is an igneous rock and it forms from the slow crystallization of magma. Granite has a medium to coarse-grained texture and is composed mainly of quartz, feldspar and other minerals. Granite is available in various formats, colours, finishes and thicknesses. Colours vary depending on the mineral composition of the rock. Format, thickness and finishes vary depending on the application.

Granite slabs can be turned into kitchen worktops, splashbacks, bar countertops, bathroom vanities, coffee tables, side tables, dining tabletops, fire hearths or decorative fireplace surrounds, cut-to-size granite floor tiles and bespoke wash hand basins.

Factory sealed granite surfaces are non-porous and hygienic. Being one of the most versatile and hardwearing natural stones, granite can be used both indoors and outdoors.

The standard granite slab finish is polished. Other available finishes are honed and leather. All these finishes are suitable for granite kitchen worktops and bathroom vanity tops.

Polishing brings out the colour and highlights the unique pattern found in some granites. Polished granite kitchen worktops have an elegant appearance and work well will matt kitchen cabinet doors.

Honed black granite countertops and granite floor tiles becoming increasingly popular. Honed Nero Assoluto granite has a light lustre which is easy on the eye and has a contemporary feel.

Granite worktops with leather finish have a texture-rich surface and look sophisticated.

Granite slabs are available in 20mm or 30mm thickness. Recommended thickness for granite kitchen worktops, splashbacks and upstands is 20mm. Thicker granite worksurfaces requires adequate support and will cost more than the 20mm version. To avoid unnecessary load on joinery, the edge of the granite worktop can be built-up to create a thicker appearance. 20mm granite worktops and bathroom vanity tops with built-up edges can have intricate profiles. Please state the desired edge profile during the quotation process.

Outdoor uses of granite entail landscaping, BBQ stations and garden furniture. Marble & Granite Ltd can supply granite sets, bespoke granite curbs or granite stone flags for any residential or commercial project.

BLACK & GREY GRANITE

BLUE & GREEN GRANITE

BROWN, BEIGE, RED & WHITE GRANITE

Please note these images are put in place to give an idea of the colour and granular variations present in the stone. Misconceptions sometimes occur because of the following reasons:

  • Granite is a natural stone therefore its graining may vary from batch to batch

  • Samples represent just a small area of an actual stone slab

  • We encourage all our customers to view the selected granite slab in person whenever is possible

  • Slab and sample images are representational only. Due to changes in lighting granite slab and sample may appear different in pictures than it does in real life

  • The displays of smart devices, tablets and personal computers sometimes interpret colours differently
