A Choice Of Different Edges For Granite Worktops

At Marble & Granite we manufacture and install worktops in a range of different stones as well as marble and granite. We can also make your worktops in limestone, quartzite, quartz, and sintered stone.

With that said, there is no doubt that granite worktops in North London are extremely popular. Granite is an igneous rock formed from crystallised magma and it is harder than marble. It is composed mainly of quartz, feldspar, mica, and other minerals. It comes in a wide range of colours and patterns, and every slab is different.

Granite worktops are extremely tough and if you cut foods directly on them the only damage will be to your knife! They are also heat resistant, which makes them ideal for use around a hob, and you can even put down hot pans on them, which will make your cooking process a lot simpler. When properly sealed with a proprietary sealant, they are stain-resistant, although any spills should still be wiped up immediately. We seal your granite worktop at the factory and give it another coat after we have installed it.

Granite worktops are also very simple to clean. All you need to do is wipe them down with some warm soapy water and then dry them off with a tea towel or other dry cloth.

There is no doubt that granite worktops do look absolutely stunning, but you can even add to the effect with your choice of different edge shapes. A square edge gives a sleek, modern look, but it should not be completely square as this would be very sharp – sharp enough to cut yourself on! If you want the square look, it should be very slightly rounded at the top and bottom, to remove the sharpness.

You could also have a bevelled edge. This is usually angled at 45°, but you could have a sharper or shallower angle if you prefer. Because of the flat design, both bevelled and square edges are very easy to clean.

Another edge design is the quarter round, or pencil edge, with the top edge of the granite being rounded to about the diameter of a pencil. A double pencil edge will have the bottom edge similarly rounded.

Then there is the bullnose edge in which the edge is fully rounded, or the half bullnose which is half rounded and square at the bottom. Other designs include the triple pencil, dupont, ogee, double ogee, knoll, shark nose, and more. We can discuss your choice of edge when you have selected your granite slab.
