For Stone Worktops – Look No Further. Marble & Granite Is Here

Are you considering refurbishing your kitchen in Stevenage? Or perhaps even extending it into the garden as so many people are doing today?

Itā€™s true that over the last few years the kitchen has become more than the room where you do the cooking and washing up. Many families also eat their meals in the kitchen and entertain guests. It has a TV on the wall too, so you wonā€™t miss Corrie or Eastenders.

It follows that many people are redesigning / extending their kitchens, and one of the major considerations is the worktops. There are many different materials that you can use for worktops, some of which are cheap and cheerful, while others are more expensive. However, it you want your kitchen to look the ā€œbeeā€™s kneesā€ as the saying goes, then ā€˜cheap and cheerfulā€™ wonā€™t cut it.

In fact, many people are looking for stone worktops in Stevenage, which is a great choice, but then there is another problem because there are different types of stone available, and they have different features. Many are natural stones such as granite, marble, limestone, sandstone, and so on, but then there is also quartz which, when referring to slabs for worktops, is actually man-made.

Some stones are porous, and this can be to varying degrees. Some stones are relatively soft (marble) while others are hard like granite. Some stones are available in a wide range of different colours, while others not so much.

Every Slab Different

One of the beauties of natural stones is that every slab is different. This is because they are composed of different minerals depending upon what was present when they were formed all those years ago. So, for example, granite is mainly composed of quartz and feldspar, but the colours and patterns are determined by other minor minerals present in the earth in that location at the time they were formed.

Some stones are also extremely hard, like granite, and it is almost impossible to scratch them. Others, such as marble, are softer and can be scratched, so you need to take care. Some stones need a sealant, if they are porous, while others donā€™t.

Isnā€™t it complicated?
